Panties are sold new with their own aromas. Most of the panties on the market are constructed from synthetic material such as polyester, silk, nylon, and microfiber–all fabric types that require (oil-based) petrochemicals in the making of them. While natural material such as cotton does not smell like oil, it too comes with its own scent. To clear the runway for your own body aroma, panties might have to be washed multiple times–especially ones made with thicker fabrics. Try sniffing the panties yourself to see how many washes it takes to get the smell out.

Bathing suits, in particular, are very oil-laden and could need many hot washes. It is recommended that you soak them in a warm water containing Epsom salt prior to putting them in the washing machine, as this helps draw out oil.
